How Mia NYC Came To Be

Mia The New Yorker was inspired by Mia, our tiny Maltipom, and the chic dog fashion scene in New York City.

When Karen moved to Williamsburg in 2022, Mia quickly became a neighborhood sensation, adored for her cute face and unique Peruvian sweater.

Fast forward to one sunny spring morning: Karen and Natasha meet for an overdue catchup coffee. Natasha shares her dreams of entrepreneurship. Karen brings up the idea of a dog brand with more character.

From that moment, two friends became business partners on a mission to elevate dogwear. Because dogwear doesn’t have to be boring.

Why Made in Peru?

We chose Peru due to the high-quality craftsmanship and materials available, and because one of our founders is Peruvian. It's important for us to bring our heritage to life in new, creative ways, and also help our countries of origin thrive. We work directly with artisans in Lima, who knit our sweaters, including the little animals and suns you'll find on them, by hand. Because of this handmade nature, each of our sweaters are one-of-a-kind, and you will find variations in each piece.

Our passion and mission lies not just in elevating dogwear and making it fun, but also in helping the people behind our brand - our amazing artisans in Peru. As Mia The New Yorker grows, we are committed to giving back to these artisans and their communities, paying them fair wages, and continuing to grow our partnership.

Meet Mia

Mia is the main inspiration behind Mia The New Yorker. She is a 9-year old Maltipom (maltese-pomeranian mix) who was born in Huntington Beach, CA. Her mom, Karen, is one of our co-founders and has taken Mia alongside many of her travels. Some of Mia's favorite places are NYC (of course!), Tulum, and Barcelona.

Mia is currently living her best life in a coastal town in Spain. She loves spending her days hanging out at coffee shops around the world, digging holes at the beach, and getting treats and belly rubs from her mom and new friends.
